About "La Cañada" by RA! – Second Place Winner, AAI Mexico National Award 2024
RA! was awarded second place in the AAI Mexico National Award 2024 for their residential project La Cañada. Located in La Paz, Baja California, La Cañada is a master plan designed to integrate seamlessly into the rocky, desert terrain of the region, which features expansive views of the Sea of Cortez and the surrounding hills.
The layout of the project takes advantage of the natural topography, with a central path that branches out to connect the residential lots. These lots are positioned to capture either views of the sea or the hills, ensuring a connection between the built environment and its natural surroundings. The design also includes a series of hidden spaces, such as outdoor fire pits and a subterranean observatory, which provide private, sheltered areas within the landscape.
The project features a series of organic forms that follow the contours of the terrain. This approach allows the architecture to blend into the environment while maintaining functional and aesthetic integrity. The jury highlighted the careful balance between the project’s relationship to the landscape and its use of materials, describing the work as "a thoughtful integration of architecture with nature."
Sobre "La Cañada" de RA! – Ganador del Segundo Lugar, Premio Nacional AAI México 2024
RA! fue galardonado con el segundo lugar en el Premio Nacional AAI México 2024 por su proyecto residencial La Cañada. Ubicado en La Paz, Baja California, La Cañada es un plan maestro diseñado para integrarse de manera fluida en el terreno rocoso y desértico de la región, con vistas al Mar de Cortés y a las colinas circundantes.
La distribución del proyecto aprovecha la topografía natural, con un camino central que se ramifica para conectar los lotes residenciales. Estos lotes están ubicados estratégicamente para capturar vistas tanto del mar como de las colinas, asegurando una relación cercana entre el entorno construido y el paisaje natural. El diseño también incluye espacios ocultos, como fogones al aire libre y un observatorio subterráneo, que ofrecen áreas privadas y protegidas dentro del entorno.
El proyecto sigue formas orgánicas que respetan las curvas del terreno. Este enfoque permite que la arquitectura se mezcle con el entorno, manteniendo tanto la funcionalidad como la estética del diseño. El jurado destacó el equilibrio cuidadoso entre la relación del proyecto con el paisaje y el uso de materiales, describiendo el trabajo como "una integración reflexiva de la arquitectura con la naturaleza."
