RA! received a Special Mention at the Architizer A+Awards for Casa LL, a residential project located beneath the cliffs of the Tepozteco mountains in Tepoztlán, Mexico. The recognition highlights the project’s ability to merge sculptural form, privacy, and landscape in a coherent and powerful spatial composition.
Casa LL is conceived as a series of monolithic volumes that appear as though carved from the mountain’s own stone. The house is composed of fragmented prisms that shift and interlock to create areas of openness and retreat. These volumes turn away from the street, denying external views, while gradually revealing the house through a compressed entry sequence that expands dramatically toward a large garden and panoramic views of the mountains.
The main program is arranged around the garden, including four bedrooms and the living room. The remaining volumes extend outward to shape patios and visual connections that bring in natural light, especially in the late afternoon. This organization creates staggered perspectives that reinforce a layered relationship between architecture and landscape.
The structure was built using expanded polystyrene panels coated with a three-dimensional wire mesh, through which colored concrete —in tones that abstract the hues of the mountain— was applied, reinforcing the house’s material connection to its surroundings.
This mention reinforces RA!’s focus on context-driven architecture: sculptural yet intimate, functional yet emotionally charged.
RA! fue reconocido con una Mención Especial en los Architizer A+Awards por Casa LL, un proyecto residencial ubicado al pie del cerro del Tepozteco en Tepoztlán, Morelos. Esta distinción destaca la capacidad del proyecto para combinar forma escultórica, privacidad y paisaje en una propuesta arquitectónica potente y coherente.
Casa LL se concibe como una serie de volúmenes monolíticos que parecen haber sido esculpidos a partir de las piedras del cerro. La casa está formada por prismas fragmentados que se unen y separan para generar espacios de amplitud y recogimiento. Los volúmenes niegan la vista desde la calle y solo se revelan gradualmente a través de un acceso comprimido que conduce a una expansión repentina hacia el jardín y la vista abierta a la montaña.
El programa principal se organiza alrededor del jardín, incluyendo cuatro recámaras y la sala. Otros volúmenes se desprenden para formar patios y relaciones visuales que permiten la entrada de luz natural, especialmente al final del día. Esta disposición genera perspectivas escalonadas y refuerza la conexión entre arquitectura y paisaje.
La estructura se construyó con paneles de poliestireno expandido recubiertos con una malla tridimensional, sobre la cual se aplicó concreto pigmentado en tonos que abstraen el color de la montaña, reforzando la relación material entre la casa y su contexto natural.
Esta mención reafirma el enfoque de RA! hacia una arquitectura sensible al lugar: escultórica pero íntima, funcional pero emocionalmente conectada.
